Bahrain

Located on the southwestern coast of the Persian Gulf, Bahrain is a small Arab state, made up of an archipelago consisting of Bahrain Island and some 30 smaller islands. The high-resolution multispectral instrument on Sentinel-2A enhances the colour differences of the various types of surface.

Satellites are an emerging tool to collect ocean data, gathering information about the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the marine ecosystems. Satellites complement in situ observations by providing global, frequent, and consistent measurements.

We use data provided by Earth observation satellites to examine the seabed, based on the principle of light propagation in water. This bathymetry technique is particularly suitable for coastal areas at shallow depths up to 15-20m, depending on the transparency of the water.
