As part of the OceanPredict ‘24 Symposium, Our Ocean from Space will be exhibited from 28 October to 31 December 2024 on the gates of the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, with the support of Mercator Ocean International.

The exhibition illustrates how essential ocean observation is to the protection of the ocean and to fostering a more responsible and sustainable use of its precious resources. The images complement the “Our Ocean From Space” touring exhibition, introducing the predictive aspect by comparing modelled data visualisations of the ocean’s past, current and future state.

Inaugurated at the Ocean Decade conference in Barcelona in April 2024, Our Ocean from Space comprises stunning Earth observation satellite images accompanied by interviews with scientific experts, local decision makers, and coastal stakeholders who explore current efforts to protect our valuable marine ecosystems. Nine themes are covered including oceanic ecosystems, threats, shape, ice, warming, and motion, their future and traffic. Organised by TIMKAT, this stage of the exhibition is supported by IOC UNESCO and Mercator Ocean International with funding from the European Union through the EU4OceanObs project.

Our Ocean from Space is coproduced by UNESCO and ESA, with the support of Mercator Ocean International and the Italian Space Agency, ASI. The French Space Agency (CNES), the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC), Planetek Italia, the Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC), Shom, Prométhée Earth Intelligence and the Maldives Space Research Organisation (MSRO) have also collaborated.
